This years Alaska Treatment-Free Beekeeping Symposium 2016 II Event was a Swarming Success. I wanted to get video, but was unable to get much. I was busy with keeping things running smooth, but next years Symposium should get video taped. I was able to relax a little and sit down as I listened to Mike & Sam Play Guitar, Banjo-Ukulele, and sing a few bee related songs. I did video their Musical numbers. Not quite sure how to get it up on this page, but I am working on it. otherwise I will upload a few photos so you can see some of what happens. More about the event below the photos.
Mike Bush at Glenn Massay Theater Mat-Su College Palmer Alaska, While lecturing with PowerPoint, speaks of Keeping Bees Dry.
There is a long list of folks to thank for making this years Alaska Treatment-Free Beekeeping Symposium 2016 II a real hit.
Summary Post Event
First I want to thank all those who attended, and cooperated with this seasons “Alaska Treatment-Free Beekeeping Symposium 2016 II”, and hope everyone brought away from the event with at least one nugget of useful beekeeping information. Dee Lusby Began he event by speaking some of her story, and mostly about beekeeping field management, her contracting work the USDA in Arizona, and shared some of her publications connected to her contract work with the USDA. She gave me copies of these publications to copy, and make available to others to read, and learn by. Then Mike Bush gave one some of his powerpoint presentations, and later came on to lecture on honey bees, and answered many questions from the attendees. After a short break Sam Comfort started the second session. Lots of folks commented how much they liked Sam Comfort s stories, and unique brand of beekeeping he practices. He keeps stationary hives of many styles in Florida, and north in upper New York State, while producing for sale honey bees & queens. Hopefully I will be able to bring them all back up for more educational opportunities, they expressed they completely enjoyed themselves, and want to visit again. Ian Williams with “Alaska Bee Initiative” finished the second session with updates on ABI activities last season, and ABI plans for this season. Ian’s initiative is focused on breeding bees in Alaska, and could use everyones help, and support to achieve ABI long term goals.
After mid day break & lunch, Nathan Broumley of Ri-Generation Nutrition of Eagle River AK gave a talk on “Tips for New Beekeepers” and “Wintering Bees in the Last Frontier”. Mike Bush followed up with more powerpoint on honey bees. To round the day off, Mike and Sam (The ZOMBEES) sang a medley of funny honey bee songs, and a few other songs. Last we tried to answer everyones questions they may have had.
I was not able to organize video taping some of the event, but I think I will be able to next year. I was able to Relax at towards the end of the event, and video Sam and Mike’s honey bee songs that Sam Comfort writes and performs. Like Sam says, his honey bee songs are anatomically correct, and they were. Mike, and Sam were very entertaining, not only speaking about honey bees, but also singing about them.
Here is a link to some post event photos. Also if there is anyone who attended who may have taken pictures and videos of the event, and would not mind sharing with me so I may post more photos of the event please contact me.
